I Hate This Place: The Pessimist's Guide To Life
Before Jimmy got on SNL, he lived in Los Angeles, studying at The Groundlings, while his sister Gloria lived in Boston pursing her career in journalism. Being so far apart, and not being able to afford calls, the two emailed each other back and forth, ending each message with a gloomy statement of hope. They sent so many in fact,
they had enough for a book. Jimmy's at the time manager, Randi Siegel saw the statements and suggested that the two create a book. She printed out a sample at Kinko's (or how it was accidently referred to Kinky's) and showed the Fallon's. They were in disbelieve of how cool it was. They showed the book to their family. After reading the manuscript, Grandma Feely stated "This book stinks". It was a sign, they had to do it. The book was published
and released in 1999. They did an autographing signing also. Afterwards, the book went out of print quickly,
and with Jimmy's rising success, it became high in demand and no one could find one.
So in the fall of 2003, the book was rereleased with a whole new look. The two appeared on the Today Show
and did another autograph signing. The book is currently available at most major bookstores. There is one
at the Barnes and Noble I work at. I have it on hold in the employee area so I can buy it to have a copy that never
gets opened. I'm weird that way!
I own the reprint, and I finally found a copy of the original online!
You can purchase both version at Half.com at very reasonable prices.
The book is HILARIOUS! Here are a few quotes.
"Whenever I see professional clowns, mimes, or people that make balloon animals, I always think of their relatives and how dissapointed they must be."
"Don't try beating em' or joining em'. Either hang out by yourself or quit".
"There Are Plenty Of Fish In The Sea - and most are like the one that
just dumped you"
"Meeting Somone At A Laundry Mat - Say you do luck out and meet someone
interesting. But would you really want to date someone who can't afford a washer
and dryer?"
